What are some of the current / latest travel scams in Siem Reap in 2022? Have you ever been a victim?
Hi fellas,
Some friends will be visiting Cambodia (Siem Reap) soon and asked me about scams they should look out for, after they read some gruesome articles online.
Thanks for your input! Really appreciate it.

The link wasn't posted. This was one of the articles: https://de.hotels.com/go/cambodia/cambodia-common-scams

I've only encountered the coin thing in Africa. I've heard of the milk scam in Siem Reap but never seen it. The tuk tuk scam is redundant because everyone uses Apps now. Touts are easy to ignore.

Thanks Lucky Lucan! Yes, I guess if you have apps like Grab it will be harder to get scammed by TukTuks. I will suggest them to buy a SIM card and download the app. Another scam I've read about, on this site actually, is the one about the boat tours on the Chong Khneas lake.

I haven’t seen the milk scam in operation the past few times I’ve been there. Previously there were 4 or 5 women, sometimes even 9 or 10 year olds with a baby peddling this story in or around pub street.
The article is nothing more than scaremongering. There will always be people crying ‘scam’ for the most insignificant things.
The only scammy thing I can think of these days which is prevalent is the $100 note switcharoo in the cheapo massage joints. I hope this never ends though… it’s marvellous entertainment to listen the the fresh off the plane discover that they were diddled when they wanted to do some ‘diddling’ of their own

The milk powder scam disappeared years ago. There are few scams in Siem Reap and, as others have mentioned, the hassle with the Tuk-tuks is a thing of the past. Not a scam I guess, but do not change money at the airport.

I wouldn't buy milk formula for any adult female who appeared to possess a functioning pair of mammary glands, so unless Angelie Jolie is begging outside a Siem Reap minimart with a faux-orphan, I'd never fall for that scam.

I always thought that the milk scam was quite a clever one.
Malnourished mothers won’t produce milk, or older sisters who are looking after the baby won’t have milk.
I don’t want money sir, but the baby needs milk…
Then the mug found that the cheapest milk on sale was $15.
I think I may have fell for it, or nearly fell for it in my early days. I can’t remember if i bought the milk or not - wouldn’t be surprised if I did.

Those baby milk formulas are expensive, I remember them being $17-$25 a can around 14 years ago when I last bought them, and they only lasted a few days. Way more than a poor person could afford. Poor mothers who can't breastfeed give their babies a gruel made of rice, mashed-up fish and if they are lucky some condensed milk.
