Bought a one way ticket on mytrip.com
Leaving late May.
Says I need to pick up baggage in bkk.and transfer
Flight with Thai Air
Anyone had a similar experience?
Is this accurate?

If the itinerary is on one ticket with the same airline or codeshare Airlines or Airlines with an interline baggage agreement then you should be issued all boarding passes at PNH and your luggage will be checked all the way through, there shouldn't be a requirement to pass through immigration to collect baggage and check it in for next leg of journey.
If you booked your flight via a 3rd party website such as skyscanner et al. then they usually put that you may need to collect luggage as a disclaimer.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
I did this last month.
PP to BKK with 2hrs and 20min between flights
You have to exit through immigration in BKK, collect your luggage, race upstairs and que to get the next flight.
I arrived in BKK at midnight and the place was packed,
You need at least 3 hours between flights to do this safely.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Given scoffer's history of international transit I'd take this advice with a grain of salt.

This is probably because you flew on an LCC (a budget airline) such as Jetstar or Air Asia. Carriers such as Thai Airways typically check your bags through as Kiwi stated, and thus there's no need to go through immigration in Bangkok, which is why the notification to the OP seems odd.

SP,
You are correct,
However I was responding to the OP's question as he had purchased a split ticket ( the same as I did )
Which upon arrival in BKK requires you to go through immigration and collect your baggage,
You must then exit the airport from the arrivals section located on the 2nd floor and go departures to the 4th floor. Once their you go through the process of booking in for your flight, locating which departure gate ( their are 3 possible choices ) and being processed by immigration ( again ) Whilst this is a smooth process, it takes time and if you plane arrives late, you will be at risk of missing your flight as the check in counter closes 1 hr before the flight is due to leave.
It took me 2 1/2 hours to complete this process, but my ticked only allowed me 2hrs 20mins between arrival and departure time, I was lucky as about 15 other travelers along with me had got caught up with processing delays and they held the plane and called for us to identify ourselves to ground staff.
My closing comment is that if you are traveling on a split ticked through BKK, you should allow yourself at least 3 hrs to be processed and board your next flight.

Just to confirm.
The ticket was purchased on trip.com from PNH to Heathrow.
2 flights
Same booking reference and ticket numbers
Thai smile to bkk
Thai Air to Heathrow
2 hrs 30min layover
Ticket states I do need to self transfer.
Sounds like I do.

Thai Smile and Thai Airways have an interline baggage agreement, they should check your luggage all the way through. If they don't issue you the BKK-LHR boarding pass at check-in at PNH, but transfer your luggage all the way through, then you just need to go to the Thai Airways transfer counter in the transit area at BKK, no need to pass through Immigration.

Bangkok Air can also book your luggage through with Thai and generally issue boarding passes.
Saves a few hunnerd dollars sometimes buying two tickets.
