Self-employed work permit
Are there any caveats, pitfalls or traps with a digital nomad registering for a work permit on the FWCMS website as Self-Employed? E.g. is there some specific things I then have to do when I charge for my services as a freelancer, with regard to sales/income tax or other such govt related things? Or some entirely separate bit of registering I need to do as a sole trader or similar business entity?
Is it the sort of thing I should be getting an agent to do for me or is it relatively pain-free these days? On the face of it it looks simple enough, but I’ve learned by now that things rarely work intuitively… doesn’t help that there’s a bunch of threads out there with people asserting you need an employer for a WP(?)
EB extension is already sorted.
Thanks

…or have I misunderstood the concept entirely and “self employed” actually means registered business owner?

Pain-free if you pay.
Almost guaranteed you will need a go-between.

Thanks for responding. Can you give any more details on this, or is this just the stock k440 cynicism? Do you know anyone who tried to get a permit as self-employed using the new system and failed?simplycute wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 5:36 amBwahahahanerdlinger wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 10:39 amIs it the sort of thing I should be getting an agent to do for me or is it relatively pain-free these days?

I’m hoping we get to the stage in the thread soon where PSD_Kiwi shows up with a detailed and well-researched reply.
Pretty please?
Pretty please?
Can't help with self-employed, but I know a few people who are essentially self-employed but opened legitimate companies. Obviously you have the corporate burdens but it works effectively.
There’s no self employed status here. You’re either employed or own a registered company.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
I've always gone to the local MoLVT, even though I was employed legit by a company, have TEACHER OF ENGLISH on the card as 'employer', which is a bit embarrassing.
$190, but didn't bother getting one this year, and waiting to see what happens.

Yeah I’m a bit confused on this point because I’ve seen others say the same, and yet the government website has a whole “self employed” section, viz: https://fwcms.mlvt.gov.kh/ and several agents’ sites also back this up, eg
https://www.makingiteasycambodia.com/fo ... bodia.html
so it’s hard to know what to believe.Self-Employed/Freelancer

Semi-related question, if I wait til next year and just pay the fine (which weirdly seems cheaper than just getting a WP?), am I going to have grief getting in and out of the country in the meantime?Geeza wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 11:38 amI've always gone to the local MoLVT, even though I was employed legit by a company, have TEACHER OF ENGLISH on the card as 'employer', which is a bit embarrassing.

In other words, has anyone ever been asked to show their WP at the airport?
