Boric Acid
Boric Acid
I'm looking for boric acid in large quantities to treat my home (all wood) for termites. Anyone know where I can find 25kilo bags? I've seen all the previous posts here about boric acid and borax but all the sources seem to lead nowhere. No luck at any of the large markets in Phnom Penh. I've literally spent days traveling around Phnom Penh on hunches and leads that didn't pan out. Any ideas. My next move is to go to Thailand and get the stuff - but I don't look forward to bringing a couple of bags of white powder across the border.

So where are you getting the ethylene glycol from as you'll need that to mix it with?
You can't just sprinkle it on your timbers!

I'm going to mix it with water - not as effective, but it works.

Try O’ Russei or Olympic market - the shopkeepers will call it either borate or borak.
Mixing it with sugar also helps

Thanks Chubacca. I tried both O'Russei and Olympic. I talk to every shop that sold any kind of chemical. No luck. Found one lady that could order it (at the food additives/dye shop) but she didn't seem interested in selling 2 25kilo bags. I'm willing to go back if your sure they have it. Any suggestions about who to talk to.

Not sure now - as has been several years since I lived in PP. Try and contact the Kouk Khleang Youth Centre - it was featured in Asialife last year (http://issuu.com/asialife/docs/asialife ... tober_2014) - made mention that they treated their bamboo with boric acid!Bongbong wrote:Thanks Chubacca. Still looking. What school do you get it from? Do you have a contact? What do they charge?

Some Austrian wines got busted for adding ethylene glycol. It made them tase sweeter, but didn't alter their "Dryness" number.
That said, I'd like to source some boric acid as well. I'd like to try using it, similar to the OP, to preserve bamboo used in construction.
