Ok. I was just wondering if drivers had a preference for those paying cash when accepting jobs. If you aren't waiting long, perhaps they don't.

Ah, OK. Not that I have discerned. Violet.violet wrote:Ok. I was just wondering if drivers had a preference for those paying cash when accepting jobs. If you aren't waiting long, perhaps they don't.

I’ve just linked my grab app to the bank account and used it a couple of times. I was surprise to get a notification of a bank account debit before the driver even arrived.slavedog wrote:Link to bank account, cashless transaction, no tip expected.

I’m a little wary of this. For a few reasons, what if the driver cancels?
It seems that Grab fare is fixed to what the app initially says (unlike PassApp who only give a fare estimate).
Which is fine... but what if you want to do a detour, or stop at a shop, or you change your plan mid journey? Can/do they account for that?
Was the notification from grab or your bank? I only get a notification from my bank after the journey. But maybe they are blocking it because it is a new account, a bit like hotels will block an amount when you check in, and unblock it when you check out and have settled the bill. Don't know, just guessing.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:I’ve just linked my grab app to the bank account and used it a couple of times. Though I think I have worked it out. Grab blocks/reserves the predicted amount of the ride on the card - before the driver happens. Then you make the journey and a few days later (not yet in my card) they process the final card payment.
ABA send a notification when an amount is blocked on a card, I misread this notification and thought it had been debited from my account already.
Really happy that Grab is here. I used to tip drivers if I didn't have to guide them. (if they didn't know how to read a map on their phone, I would round it up to the next 1000r) if I would arrive at my destination without having to give directions I would give them a small tip.
I recently linked my Aba card and I'll give a small tip if the drive went smooth or if I have a short stop along the way.
I recently took a nightbus to Sr and arrived at 5am, I didn't want to wait for a grab so I checked the price quoted by grab. The Grab price was $1.75 so I told the guy at the bus station I would pay $2. Got one guy to take me for $2 (I showed him with grab it was only $1.75), when I arrived he wanted $3. Told him to fck off.
The reason I prefer Grab over PassApp, is that the points can be used in other countries where grab is available [emoji56]

That might be an idea!Equinix wrote:

Gather up points in Cambodia where rides are cheap and spend them in Singapore where rides are much more expensive. I’m sure they’ve thought of this and made allowances for it - but it sounds like it is worth trying.

As per recommendation I linked my bank account to Grab.
All good. Life much easier.
But then i noticed loads of debits to my account - these seemed to be more than the journeys I remember taking.
So I tried to reconcile them and have queried with the company. It seems that they have charged me nearly $10 too much over the past 2 weeks. It’s not a massive amount, but it’s a pain in the ass to have to reconcile journeys with account debits.
What I have discovered is:
1. Cancelled rides.
Grab drivers also use PassApp. What the do is when they are on a PassApp journey they open Grab and accept fares for when the PassApp on finishes. So the customer books a fare, sees the driver is 2 minutes away but instead of coming to the customer they travel the opposite direction. So the customer gets frustrated, cancels and tries to book again.
When a customer cancels a journey Grab fines the customer 5000 Riel. If you pay by cash they block your profile for a few days as a penalty, if you have linked your bank account they don’t block your profile but debit the 5,000 Riel.
2. App error. I have tried to book a fare and the app returned an error. I tried several times but no success. I don’t know whether it was a grab issue or a mobile internet issue. No worries, I used PassApp instead.
5 days later I see that they have debited the amount of the journey from my account.
It’s a real pain in the ass trying to reconcile journeys to account transactions.
In an ideal world you would trust the company and just give transactions a cursory glance - but with Grab I am getting the sense that I am being diddled out of money due to app issues and driver behaviour.
