Not arguing with you, A but rather exploring the psychology.
Many people want to feel like they can are able to make the world a better place, or a place that they want to live in. I don’t think that makes them a narcissist.
Most of my life I wanted to be part of a change and not a part of the status quo, especially in my twenties and early thirties. I may be many things but I am not a narcissist.
It’s not unusual for people to be driven to not be the person who stands by and does nothing. It’s even more the case with the most recent generations - there’s obviously some complex psychology playing out that is far more than just narcissism.
Why cats and not starving or poor people? I think it is because this is where a person feels they have the power/capability/capacity to feel like they are living a life that matters, that has purpose, in a situation where there is little to no red tape standing in their way. Not a lot is needed but they can contribute. We aren’t all capable of being the powerhouse influencer (in the traditional sense rather than socials sense)that can make changes in the system and ‘save’ a child or adult in need. There’s far more red tape involved when it comes to helping people also.
I think it’s a complicated thing.
cats and shit
