Daily US gun nutter
When a population has been raised to believe the military and all things in uniform are to be adored, along with constantly being bombarded with the fear and imminent threat of invading Russians, Chinese, Guatemalans, or gay Mexican chihuahuas - added to the hidden bunkers of cash on offer from gun makers and gun groups to oil the machine - of course people are gonna wanna be 'locked and loaded'.

In defence of the American cousins, things get pretty difficult when there is talk of amending the constitution. In most cases a good thing and a defence against tyranny. Having said that, perhaps the right to stroll on down the road with a cannon could do with some scrutiny in the modern world.
Polls indicate most Americans favor stricter gun laws. https://news.gallup.com/poll/1645/guns.aspx

I was on Twitter and accidentally saw a clip showing the pile of bodies outside the H&M (stupid, useless, rich Emerald Boy can't moderate). Their bodies kind of circled around some bushes cause they obviously tried desperately to seek cover then dropped where they were just cut the fuck down with bullets. A man, still alive on his back, looked Korean and had no jaw/chin but was moving his head, completely unaware his upper legs are on a face-up dead toddler, arm stretched out, with their brain matter splattered on the ground (looked as if he'd been trying to protect the kid). The man's upper body/head was on a woman's pale legs but the rest of her is obscured by the bushes. Behind them were two young white women in a pool of blood and somebody was checking their pulse. I wondered if they were a family and I wanted to know what ended up happening. There's non-graphic dashcam footage of the shooter exiting his car and shooting; it's far away but you see the people walking by the bushes are clearly the victims in that video.Bong Burgundy wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 5:15 pmAnd again
A gunman has shot and killed eight people shopping at a mall north of Dallas, Texas, emergency services say.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65515915
From a civilian first responder:
"When asked if he thought he saved any lives, Spainhouer said he's not sure, but knows he lost three people. He said he raced to the shopping center when his son called to say there had been shots fired outside H&M—the store where he worked. (...)
Spainhouer said he got there before any first responders and while a handful of people around him recorded videos of the bodies on the ground, he tried to save lives.
"I never imagined in 100 years I would be thrust into the position of being the first first responder on the site to take care of people," he shared. "The first girl I walked up to was crouched down covering her head in the bushes, so I felt for a pulse, pulled her head to the side and she had no face."
Spainhouer said he also found a child, who survived while covered by his protective mother who had been killed.
"When I rolled the mother over, he came out. I asked him if he was OK and he said, 'My mom is hurt, my mom is hurt.' So rather than traumatize him, I pulled him around the corner sat him down and he was covered from head to toe...like somebody poured blood on him."
Spainhouer said what he witnessed Saturday will haunt him for the rest of his life."

Was pretty sure the boy he saved was sheltered by the woman whose legs I saw underneath the male victim's head. So sadly she didn't survive. Then I read something on Twitter about one child being the sole survivor of a South Korean American family of four and I knew it was them and that the man had ended up dying. I’m still waiting to hear why those who claim it’s a mental illness issue think the US has a worse mental illness cross than the rest of the world, and if it DOES have a demonstrably worse crisis why it allows such easy access to guns.

Louisiana girl shot in head while playing hide-and-seek
A US householder has been charged with shooting a girl who was playing hide-and-seek outside his home, police said.
The 14-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after she was shot in the back of the head in rural Louisiana, police said.
David Doyle, 58, is charged with aggravated assault and battery. He told officers he opened fire after seeing "shadows outside his home".
It is the latest US shooting sparked by a seemingly trivial misunderstanding.
They did something by accident. Then they were shot
Police responded in the early hours of last Sunday to calls about the shooting of the girl in the town of Starks, 250 miles (400km) west of New Orleans.
Officers learned that "several juveniles were playing hide and seek in the area and were hiding on the neighbour's property", said a press release from Officers at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner, Mr Doyle, "stated he observed shadows outside his home, at which time he went inside and retrieved his firearm," added the press release.
"He then advised detectives he went back outside and observed people running away from his property, at which time he began shooting at them and unknowingly hit the girl."
Mr Doyle remained in custody on Tuesday, a day after he was arrested and charged.
The shooting is the latest US gun violence incident involving young Americans to make headlines:
In Texas, 18-year-old cheerleader Payton Washington was shot and seriously injured on 18 April after she mistakenly tried to enter the wrong vehicle in a parking lot near Austin, Texas
In New York state, 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis was shot and killed on 15 April after a friend drove their car down the wrong driveway
In Missouri, 16-year-old Ralph Yarl was shot on 16 April in the head and arm when he rang the doorbell at the wrong address
In North Carolina, a six-year-old girl and her father were shot on 18 April after police said their basketball rolled into the alleged shooter's yard

Yeah, but this is all ok because Harold says these numbskulls need the guns to defend themselves from the government, and Phuket says it’s not about access to guns; it’s because of mental health issues in the country and of course there is no need to limit access to guns when there is a mental health crisis. Good Lord no.

Here's an interesting case study:
A US Army sergeant convicted of killing a Black Lives Matter protester in 2020 has been sentenced to 25 years in a case that has outraged conservatives.
A judge sentenced Daniel Perry, 36, on Wednesday, for fatally shooting Garrett Foster, 28, at a protest in Austin. Perry and Foster are both white.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott previously said he would pardon Perry as soon as an official request "hits my desk".
Republicans and Perry's attorneys have argued he acted in self-defence.
"After three long years we're finally getting justice for Garrett," Foster's mother, Sheila Foster, told the court on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press......
....Garrett Foster was killed on 25 July 2020, when Perry, a soldier who drove for Uber at the time, turned on to a street where Black Lives Matter demonstrators were marching, went through a red light and stopped his vehicle.
Foster, a former Air Force mechanic who was openly carrying an AK-47 style weapon - which is legal in Texas - was one of several protesters who approached Perry's vehicle.
Perry - who had no passenger at the time - said some of the demonstrators began banging on his car. The protesters told police they feared the vehicle might ram into them, according to media accounts.
Perry's lawyers argued that Foster began to raise the assault rifle toward Sgt Perry.
According to authorities, Perry lowered his window and shot Foster five times with a .357 revolver before driving off. He called 911 shortly afterwards.
Prosecutors had argued that Perry could have driven away if he feared for his safety, rather than firing his gun.
A forensic psychologist who examined Perry testified during his sentencing that he believed Perry suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder exacerbated by his time in the military and that he had developed an "us vs them" mentality.
Perry began searching for the locations of Black Lives Matter protests weeks before the shooting, according to court documents. He also messaged friends on social media, comparing protesters to "a bunch of monkeys flinging (expletive) at a zoo", court records show.
His lawyers argued Perry was legally acting in self-defence when he shot Foster.

A toddler shot two people in Indiana, including a murder suspect, according to local news reports, citing police.
The shooting occurred on the evening of May 18 in Lafayette after a 3-year-old child got ahold of a gun, police told WTHR.
The child fired one shot that struck two people, the outlet reported, citing officers.
One was the child’s mother, a 21-year-old from Gary, according to WISH, and the other was a 23-year-old man who was a friend of the mother.
Responding officers arrested the man, who was wanted on a murder charge in Illinois and had an active warrant on him, according to the outlet.
The injuries the pair had were not life-threatening, according to WXIN.
A spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for information from McClatchy News.
The incident was one of six shootings that occurred in the span of a week in Lafayette, according to the Lafayette Journal & Courier.
Lafayette has a population of around 70,000 and is about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis. https://www.yahoo.com/news/3-old-shoots ... 48848.html
