A very promising start in the early exchanges, with both sides showing plenty of attacking intent. At this rate, they'll be knackered if it goes into extra time.

No lack of chances in the first half, and some good D. Griezmann isn’t shining though. Hope France can be a little more aggressive in the second.springrain wrote:A very promising start in the early exchanges, with both sides showing plenty of attacking intent. France starting to stamp their class; some lovely deft little flicks and backheels. Quality! Still can't discount the plucky Belgians just yet, though.

The good thing about this outcome is that the Belgians will destroy the Brits on Saturday, after they lose to Croatia.
I hope not. Who (aside from the French and the Croatians) prefers to see a France vs. Croatia final?logos wrote:The good thing about this outcome is that the Belgians will destroy the Brits on Saturday, after they lose to Croatia.

I don't think the French as a country could handle losing to England. It would be like 2006 against Italy, times ten. If they lost to Belgium they would have been super bummed, but it wouldn't have been the end of the world. Losing to England, in the finals, would crush them. "Anybody but England" I've heard time and time again.

There is a palpable sense of tense anticipation here in the UK, with people caught between natural optimism and not wanting to jinx things by getting ahead of themselves. Most English simply can't believe we've made it this far - before the tournament few pundits gave the team any chance of getting any further than the last 16. Decades of disappointment has tempered expectations.
On paper, England should beat Croatia but over 90 / 120 minutes anything can happen - a fluke or wonder goal, a sloppily conceded penalty, a goalkeeping error. One thing is for sure - the entire country will be glued to tv sets at home, in pubs and on outdoor screens everywhere.
Making the final would be considered a huge success. I doubt anyone thinks we could beat France though. But you can dare to dream.

I’ve heard so many Englishmen chanting “football’s coming home” that I’m almost pitying the fans in the stadium if they lose, as the opposing team’s fans will start chanting “you’re going home”.Dallow Spicer wrote:There is a palpable sense of tense anticipation here in the UK, with people caught between natural optimism and not wanting to jinx things by getting ahead of themselves. But yes, people posting things like this might regret it later on:

I wonder how much money David Baddiel, Frank Skinner & the Lightning Seeds have actually made out of that song.
