I don’t think they’ll regret it. It’s mostly done tongue in cheek. Look, I’m not an English football fan, but if I was I’d be joining in the banter and excitement. Real fans know that the team has overachieved due to good team spirit, a bit of luck and a kind draw. But now they are only 2 matches from lifting the World Cup - and one of those is eminently winnable.Miguelito wrote:I’ve heard so many Englishmen chanting “football’s coming home” that I’m almost pitying the fans in the stadium if they lose, as the opposing team’s fans will start chanting “you’re going home”.Dallow Spicer wrote:There is a palpable sense of tense anticipation here in the UK, with people caught between natural optimism and not wanting to jinx things by getting ahead of themselves. Most English simply can't believe we've made it this far - before the tournament few pundits gave the team any chance of getting any further than the last 16. Decades of disappointment has tempered expectations.
On paper, England should beat Croatia but over 90 / 120 minutes anything can happen - a fluke or wonder goal, a sloppily conceded penalty, a goalkeeping error. One thing is for sure - the entire country will be glued to tv sets at home, in pubs and on outdoor screens everywhere.
Making the final would be considered a huge success. I doubt anyone thinks we could beat France though. But you can dare to dream.
But yes, people posting things like this might regret it later on:
They know that if they get to the final they are up against a much, much better team - but in a one off match anything can happen.
They are supporting their team, and things like this mock ticket is funny - going nuts in an IKEA store isn’t - but other stuff should be taken in the right spirit.
