Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.
Way too early to say goodbye unfortunately. This is a very cynical move by BJ.
The Committee was going to sanction him for more than ten days triggering a by-election in his seat. He would have lost that - he is way behind in the polls. He couldn’t survive such a defeat in the long term.
By resigning he avoids that defeat, can claim wrong he is being hounded out by deep state forces and he will step back into a safe seat (maybe Darries’) which he will win, and thus be able to launch a new leadership big.
The Tory party is in the middle of a civil war.

I've been seeing more and more articles about food contamination cases in the UK like this one:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/compani ... r-AA1lupyH
One consequence of Brexit is a watering down of the UK's food standards. Nowadays, not only do Britain's most vulnerable need to struggle to find food, they also have to worry about the food they do manage to secure being contaminated.

^My limited understanding of the Internet is that if you see things more often, it's because some program has decided that's what you want to see.
I myself have been receiving more "affiliated content" for stair lifts.

I wonder what Vespasian thinks of Rishi Sunak. I don't think Sunak is nearly as polarizing of a figure as his predecessor.
Speaking of stair lifts, have you read the book "Crippled: Austerity and the Demonization of Disabled People"? The book explores the impact that austerity has had on the lives of Britain's disabled. The book quotes some sobering statistics: "Around a sixth of disabled adults and half of disabled children live in inaccessible housing"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crippled#Synopsis
I don't understand how a country that grew rich first by plundering the church and later by plundering most of the rest of the world cannot even afford to take care of its disabled population. It's further evidence of the UK's decline.
I haven't read it but I recently renovated a 4th floor apartment in Glasgow - up 8 flights of stairs, no lift.Harold wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 8:24 amSpeaking of stair lifts, have you read the book "Crippled: Austerity and the Demonization of Disabled People"? I had to take down an internal wall in order to make the kitchen wheel chair accessible - the law states a wheel chair must be able to swivel 360 degrees in the kitchen.
How the wheel chair user would access or leave the apartment in the first place I don't know, but perhaps they could be carried up and then spend the rest of their life swivelling in the kitchen and thanking the Scottish government for making this possible.

Your take on U.K. politics is interesting but inaccurate.
Sunak is as despised in the U.K. as both Johnson and Truss. The poll numbers are through the floor. Worse for the Tories, he’s derided not only by the Tories’ natural opponents but is currently despised by a lot of the Tory right too, so it’s a double whammy for him.
I had hoped he might be a relief from those hopeless charlatans. He promised a more open and transparent approach to politics. He has failed in that miserably, evidenced by his grotesque continuation of the Rwanda policy, a policy that he actually opposes deep down and said wouldn’t work when he was chancellor, but which he knows he has to push to appease the unappeasable Braverman wing.
Sturgeon's WhatsApp insults today were quite special ...
Meum est propositum in taberna mori,
ut sint Guinness proxima morientis ori.
tunc cantabunt letius angelorum chori:
"Sit Deus propitius huic potatori."

For me it was clear the culture had declined beyond saving when on a recent visit I saw that "smart joggers" were a thing. Fucking baseball hats in restaurants were bad enough, but smart joggers - Fuck off.
I don't even know what a smart jogger is.
What I find incomprehensible is that the same people who gave the world the likes of Adam Smith, David Hume, and Joseph Black are now electing the likes of Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf. Say what you will about Adam Smith but at least he understood that labor is the source of all value and the Scottish of his generation knew how to work. It seems like the SNP's solution to every problem is to fleece the rich and pass more and more censorship legislation.
