Argue in circles about British politics thread
It is heartbreaking to know that there are tens of thousands of Oliver Twists in the UK today:
Anyone who supports the Tories should go without food for two days a week. Your support is the reason why food prices are more and more expensive in the kingdom. The least the Tory supporters can do for the country is skip a few meals every week and maybe then Britain's most vulnerable can eat.

I thought the food shortages was because of unusual weather in southern Europe?
I've never understood the "Tory" and "labour" zealots that seem to live their lives slagging off >insert political party<. Lumping a whole group together and disagreeing with every single thing they do and blaming the demise (wether real or imagined) of pretty much anything squarely on their shoulders.
They are career politicians. They all lie. They all get things wrong. They all change their minds/policies etc. They are disconnected with real people. Maybe they started out giving a toss, when they were young students, but they all get sucked into that goo that is UK politics.
My dad was a politician with the SDP and he hated the fact his own party members followed that route of politics.
It gets to the point when they just do politics to be a politician not for what they get elected for.

YTP on the money here I reckon; the number of 'career politicians' & how detached they are from reality- on all sides- is disturbing. It is like getting advice from MBA course graduates who are still in their 20s and never worked for a business in their life, let alone owned or run one.
It is inevitable that Labour will win the next election, and if you think that'll suddenly right a fast sinking ship - that started roughly the same time as the Titanic went down, I reckon you're quite mistaken.

Back in the day when my dad was active (late 70s early 80s) things were a little more simpler. labour - working class, Tory - middle/upper class. Then labourites started voting Tory and it all changed.Spigzy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 12:10 pmYTP on the money here I reckon; the number of 'career politicians' & how detached they are from reality- on all sides- is disturbing. Now it's a big mix and even peers and benchers are from all walks of life.
I met Barry Norman as a kid at a convention for boring people. He was in the SDP at the time and I asked him what his favourite movie was (as you do) and instead of answering he started talking about politics. I was about 12yo!. What a dick!
In fact people who talk about politics are generally boring people. It's like they have nothing else in their lives so tend to bleat on about this party or that party, often amusingly changing politicians names like Tony bLIAR or Paddy Pantsdown etc.
It's just dull. I never talk about politics especially when having a beer. They you hear someone mention "Tump" and that's it. That'll be all anyone will bore on about for the next hour until we all get drunk enough to forget what we were all talking about, or even better we will fight for no reason.
But I am replying to this dull thread so I am guilty.

For those of you unfamiliar with the SDP.
The original SDP merged with the Liberal Party in 1988 to form the Liberal Democrats, but Owen, two other MPs and a minority of party activists formed a breakaway group also called the Social Democratic Party (1988–1990) immediately afterwards. That continuing party dissolved itself in 1990 after finishing behind the Official Monster Raving Loony Party in a by-election, but activists met and voted to continue the party in defiance of its National Executive, leading to the creation of the current Social Democratic Party under the leadership of the candidate who lost the by-election.
I hope this clarifies the picture.

Not really relevant to my point but thanks.

Barry felt the Social Demoncrat Party
( prior to the merger and mutiny ) offered the United Kingdom hope between the Thatcherites and the radical left.
Few UK residents are aware of the very humble beginnings, the bitter backstabbing and the collapse of the party or even a contribution, however insignificant, the SDP made to bettering the United Kingdom.

It plays a part, but not a big part. Production is down because of the weather, but supermarkets in Europe have no supply issue. Why? Because suppliers are sending produce to the markets they can easily reach, not those markets that their drivers now have to wait 24 hours at customs, and file tons of paperwork.
When product is scarce, why on earth would EU producers want to supply a 'third country' when it can sell all its stuff more easily with friendly neighbours?
And why is the UK a 'third country'? Because the UK stupidly voted for this.
There really is no point regurgitating the common sense remainders were talking. The pettyinded morons have forced us into Brexiting, and whether they deny it or wring their hands about the way they voted now, the only fact that remains is All Brexiters Must Die

I hope this doesn't seem extraneous but Barry Norman's Pickled Onions are no longer made although there is a petition on the Tesco FB page asking that Tesco restock them.

Of course they shouldn’t die? But they’ll never be forgiven.
Rishi Sunak today lauded the Windsor Agreement by saying that Northern Ireland is in an incredibly privileged and exciting place because it has access to both the U.K. and EU markets.
Lovely. That’s great for Northern Ireland. I’m happy for them.
Would it be churlish to point out that the businesses in rest of the U.K. had similar access to both the U.K. and EU markets a few years ago until he and the other Brexiteers campaigned to take it away?
