I've found Tom Cooper over-the-top in regards to his pro-Ukraine stance, which has led to him making statements that were wildly speculative and subsequently proved wrong.. It is a pity as his understanding of the different capabilities of various units and equipment is helpful. I've noticed he's ratched back the speculation lately which has improved his output.
War_Mapper and Militaryland offer decent maps with a pro-Ukrainian bias, whilst Rybar offers decent maps with a pro-Russian bias. An interesting one is Andrew Perpetua (Ukrdailyupdate) who is strongly pro-Ukrainian but at the same time obsessed with accuracy which adds fidelity to his maps.
Here is the Rybar map of the Lyman area as an example:

Putin is making a speech today and there is much speculation this will include an annexation announcement.
There is also speculation that it may be put on hold until such stage as Russia can halt the Ukrainian advance.
The latter appears to make sense, it isn't a good look domestically to be steadily losing territory you claim ownership of to your smaller neighbour, however the strain the RU Army is under may have reached the point where Putin needs to throw available conscripts into the fray.

Widespread dissent is growing across Russia but it will not be enough to stop the madness. Surely there must be someone equally as mad as Putin to take the fucker out.

It's about Nord Stream-pipeline...?
When they build pipeline putin already announced it's russian property. Now somebody explode pipe and they have reason to sail navy for protect.
Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
But didn't Putin say the damaged part of the pipeline is in the US zone, whatever the fuck that means. The US has a 'zone' in the Baltic Sea?!

The attack on Nord Stream 1 & 2 is rather interesting. Short-term it has a level of economic impact, medium-term economically it is irrelevant. Militarily it is, from what I can gather, pointless.Dylan Quint wrote: ↑Fri Sep 30, 2022 9:45 amBut didn't Putin say the damaged part of the pipeline is in the US zone, whatever the fuck that means. It may be an effort to sew disunity within Europe, however to do so the impact must be immediate as people, and subsequently economies, adjust. This, it will not do.
It may be an effort to halt Russian gas supplies, but that is but two of multiple entry points. Once again, ineffective.
The only groups that would benefit from such an attack do not have the capabilities.
From what I can gather, it smells like a cock-up. The question is only, whose cock-up?
Apparently the damage would have been much worse if it was at full pressure, the Russian turned it off a while back.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
Not positive this is correct, but I believe Russia today announced the annexation of Sihanoukville's Snake Island, and is this very moment setting up a customs post in the middle of the bridge. (While it is not clear if all former legal inhabitants voted in the recently held Snake Island Referendum, now that it has been successfully held, by definition, ALL current legal residents did vote, as voting was required for current legal residency.)
The only question most local commentators have is, "Why did this take so long?"
If any former residents want to move off the island, but are not severely thrilled to live in any currently existing country, I am proud to announce that a brand new country is soon to be born in another very legitimate referendum. "9999stan" has some nice museums, bars, and other cultural highlights and will evolve from a city formerly known as St. Petersburg. We have a few wrinkles to iron out, but you can expect our new country to be announced next Friday. Immigration will be free to former Snake Island residents, all others are welcome to join for a small, one time donation of $1,000. (I'll send you the Postal box number later.)
Thanks!

Why make a parody of this war, and an unjust war at that? Nothing funny about human suffering, you must be some kind of misanthrop.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 12:25 amNot positive this is correct, but I believe Russia today announced the annexation of Sihanoukville's Snake Island, and is this very moment setting up a customs post in the middle of the bridge. Putin and Lavrov together have some limited idea of boundaries. Medvedev would take us into WW3 in a few weeks

Don't think the same can be said for Nikolai Pertrushev, hardliner and boss of the Federal Security Service. He ran the show while Putin was under the knife.raendi wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 8:06 amIf Madvedev comes back to president he will come same smiling puppet as he was before war. Horrendous reports regarding Russian casualities on the Lyman-Kreminna road are coming in. I don't know if they are Russian forces moving to reinforce Lyman or forces withdrawing from the area towards Kreminna, but it is sounding ugly (Ukraine has fire-control over the only remaining access road, but is unlikely to have physical control beyond light infantry in the terrain either side).
I thought Russia would have withdrawn from Lyman in good order a few days ago once their position became untenable, however they seem to be determined to hold onto it.
