End of Week 22 of the Russo-Ukrainian War and there has been little movement along the front.
In the West and North there has been no change. There was no change in the status of Belarusian forces.
In Kharkiv Oblast there has been no change.
In the Donbas, Russia made some small gains in South East and East of Bakhmut. Efforts to advance on Slovyansk from Izyum remained stalled. It is unclear as to why the Russian advance in this theatre has slowed so dramatically given the concentration of Russian forces; the large number of HIMARS strikes on logistical hubs and command & control centres to the rear may play a role.
In the Zaporizhzhia region there have been few changes, with Ukraine making some minor gains.
Around Kherson there has been a lot of activity though few territorial exchanges. The Ukrainians have concentrated efforts on disabling bridges into the region in general, and into Kherson City in particular. Last night there was a large strike on the only road bridge across the Dnieper into Kherson City (second such strike this week), though the extent of damage is not yet known.
Around Odessa, Russian strikes on port facilities continue despite a grain export agreement being reached through intermediaries (Turkey & the UN)..
In Transnistria authorities declared their intent to unify with Russia. There is no indication that this is likely to occur, however it correlates with stated intentions from administrators within occupied Ukraine. There has been speculation regarding September 11 (the date for Russian municipal elections) as a date for referenda in the occupied regions of Ukraine, though Russian-backed administrators have yet to announce a date. That the Donetsk Republic authorities declared an intent to have all of Donetsk Oblast under their control by end of August lends credence to the speculation.

The people who put that map toegether need lessons in font and background contrast

Of course they would be influenced. They're smart enough to know that different parts of the world don't exist in individual vacuums.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 10:23 amI don’t think China needs any emboldening and they certainly wouldn’t be influenced by any outcome of a foreign nations ambitions.Prahok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 5:50 amNo doubt Beijing is watching events unfold with intense interest. A successful move by Russia into Ukraine, even a limited move, may embolden Beijing depending upon the response from Western powers. A move to grab the Taiwanese held Kinmen Islands may well result.
They are their own destiny.
Russia will be so enfeebled by this extravagant folly that they will become a Chinese vassal state.
Maybe, but Taiwan is not one of them, otherwise they would have invaded years ago.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 6:54 pmOf course they would be influenced. Countries generally don't invade others which is why the Ukraine thing is pretty out-there, although I think people are switching off to it now and when the media get bored it's game over.

Agreed, people are getting bored with the war...for now.
Hell is literally going to freeze over very soon in Ukraine. Watching a wounded civilian population freezing to death will be brutal viewing on prime time TV and social media.
Maybe Putin has been waiting for his biggest ally to finally arrive...Winter!

Don't mention the Giant Panda in the room.
America invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. The Saudis invaded Yemen. The Russians invaded Georgia. Turkey invaded Syria. The Israelis invaded Gaza and the West Bank. Comoro invaded Anjouan.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 7:57 amMaybe, but Taiwan is not one of them, otherwise they would have invaded years ago.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 6:54 pmOf course they would be influenced. Countries don't generally invade other countries but there are plenty of 21st century exceptions that prove your rule.
My point. All those examples didn’t get the world all upset and outraged as much as the Ukraine invasion and possible Taiwanese one.
Never heard of the last one. Are they two of your gay friends?

Harold, with respect, I'm not sure who's providing you with your history texts and news, but they are very different to mine.
This is just the list for NATO 1992 on, the list which includes member countries alone (US etc) is significantly longer

There appear to be competing claims regarding the reported shelling of a POW facility in Olenivka.

If it was indeed a strike from Ukrainian forces then it is in Russia's interest to allow independent investigators immediate access to the site.

Are there any organizations that can carry out a fair and impartial investigation? Many of these organizations have been exposed faking massacres during the wars in the Balkans and they've more recently been exposed faking sarin gas attacks in Syria. Many of these so-called "independent" organizations like the OPCW receive money under the table from the CIA.

Russia needs to find an investigator that both parties have trust in regarding their impartiality. Which organisation this transpires to be is determined by the parties involved in the dispute, as what is an agreeable investigation body for one set of disputants may not be for another.
