Refugees vs wives getting into the UK
Just read that 10's of thousands of Ukrainian refugees could be coming to the UK.
The main reason we came to live in Ireland (which we now call home), is that we kept on hearing from relatives, that it was really really difficult to get your wife into the UK.
Even when armed with lawyers, it could drag on for ages.
How does this make sense, when they seem to have opened the flood gates over the last 10 years, to people who have no connection to the UK?
What percentage of those go on the dole, because they can't or don't want to assimilate with Brits?
The UK is basically a small island.
How many more can it take?
The housing situation is a mess.
I'm talking more about the contradiction, not whether it's right or wrong to take them in.
Peace

There is a huge fucking difference between aiding those running for their lives from a war and someone importing some washed up cashier.

Can't comment on difficulty on getting wives to the UK to live permanently, but I know of several who have done it, no trouble at all with the offiicial docs. I equally had no trouble getting the wife into the UK for trips, etc - a lot of paperwork, but really not hard at all if you're organised.
The "Assimiliation" thing is nowhere near like the issues the UK, well let's say London actually, has with South Asian populations who for generations can't even speak English - there's definitely something wrong with that. But generally everyone that goes to London, (and I really hesitate to say UK because aside from the bigger cities, every village is 99.9% white bread) ends up adding the superb cultural soup you see there. It isn't perfect by any means, I'm sure folks of non-English descent would point at flaws, but as far as multi-culturism goes, I think London perhaps has nailed it better than anywhere else so far.
The most stupid irony about the UK situation is that you've got a Home Secretary with the surname "Patel" who is saying she doesn't want any immigrants coming in. A most vile woman.

There’s far far more white spongers than immigrants but some parts of the media like to portray all immigrants are here to take.
Go back to the 50 and 60s and there was the same nonsense - Indians from Africa, Pakistanis and Bengals etc.

You are right.
Most European countries have their own homegrown sponges so they don't need to import exotic ones.
Every countries' drive to always grow, grow, grow the economy IS a problem (consumerism, climate, etc), but, on the other hand, paying for retiring old folks also IS a problem if so many are retiring that there are too few younger workers to pay for retirees healthcare etc. Whatever you feel about enriching a country's cultural soup, economics, encourages some immigration when the older population is, well, older. Countries with space that immigrants want to move to are lucky.
Ukraine and Russia already had rapidly aging populations, however this war pans out, I can't see smart, young, well-educated Indians or Singaporeans keen to immigrate there over the next ten years.

If London is the best multiculturalism has to offer then it's a f****** shitstorm of the highest order. The only multicultural model is America and it's failed. European Nations copied it and it hasn't worked. Do I need to refer you to the Metropolitan Police convictions Twitter page to show you what multiculturalism is?
Rubbish. Go to Silicon Valley, multiculturalism flourishes there. As well as many other places. Technology developed in the United States over the past century has transformed the world in which we live. Shopping malls in Asia are a direct copy of the American way of life. I agree the nation is showing the attrition of leading this world for so long. Let's hope those who want to take matters into their own hands won't force people and make decisions against their own long-term interests.
Back on topic, it is no problem at all getting spouses back the U.K. providing you meeting the clearly communicated criteria and get your papers in order.
The only time I hear complaints is from idiots who somehow think it’s their dod given right to bring their bar girl skank back, don’t do the relevant papers or meet the very low financial barriers, and kick up a stink as a result.
As always it’s the noisy minority who set the tone. The silent competent majority just get on with things and get things sorted.

USA? Come on, they didn't even get started on the program until the 1970s, you can do one with using USA as any kind of benchmark. Black people were integrating in European cities centuries before the USA was even created.
Fred Edwards for every Met Police fuck up, you can multiply it by a hundred pretty much anywhere in the USA. I didn't say it was perfect, I said it was perhaps the best example.
busybee fair example; but minorities make up just 5% of Silicon Valley, London is 40%, 37%of which weren't even born in London. Somebody find me some better stats than that & I'll cede the point.

What experience and knowledge have you got to be able to tell me if multicultural London is good or bad?
Only my personal experience of working/living there for 20+ years and then comparing it to everywhere else I've been around the world (not for 20 years)- I could be wrong. Just the sheer varitey of cultures it encompasses exceeds what I've seen elsewhere. But more important than just the stats of how many minorities living in a city, is how well adapted they are and perhaps how safe they feel in their adopted home.
For sure you can come across 'far right' areas like Millwall, full of racist idiots where you might not want to live, but for the most part I think if you stopped an immigrant in the street they'd say they feel safe & have opportunity in their community.
Heck in the USA Dave Chapelle used to have a skit about not wanting to report a robbery in his house in case the police yelled out "He's still in there! Sick bastard even hung up his own family pics here!". An equivalent comedian from the same era in the UK, Lenny Henry, was worshipped universally - the police would want his autograph!
But sure, I get your point - maybe your experience is entirely different, and maybe I am also entirely wrong and all immigrants really hate living in London and those bloody racist redcoats!
