The cost of affordable healthcare seems to be the last thing on most governments' minds.
There's a disconnect between the fact that governments are elected by people who pay taxes, but these same taxpayers have very little say in how their taxes are spent. I'm not talking about Cambodia here, I'm talking abut the richest countries in the world (with a few exceptions).

This is NOT solely limited to the US, it's symptomatic of many countries across the world, and across the political system spectrum. Bigpharma corruption is simply out of control
