Another wrong call. It seems stronger now than ever before.
And of course the UK’s departure has meant the average IQ in the EU has soared.
Brexit: a disaster?
For those not convinced that there are fewer and fewer jobs available in Brexit Britain even though the government says there are, I think one should look at Friedman's use of the Phillips curve, to demonstrate to direct correlation between high interest rates and high unemployment.
Friedman and Phelps asserted that the Phillips curve was only applicable in the short-run and that, in the long-run, inflationary policies would not decrease unemployment. Friedman then correctly predicted that in the 1973–75 recession, both inflation and unemployment would increase.

There are more job vacancies in the U.K. than ever before, and employers in all sectors are struggling to find people.
That is statistical fact, and anyone in the U.K. can see it anecdotally also.

Brexit always was, and is an unworkable shambles- a combination of dodgy money, short-term political gain and dissatisfaction in the political system by both left/right wing (often a little bit rascist and/or gullible).
It was a shitshow and should have needed a two-thirds majority like almost every other country with a constitutional law (Britain doesn't have a 'constitution', but as the 'mother of parliaments' probably should have noted this aspect).
Now, as every economist, business leader (except the 'Spoons prick), non-moron and even former Tory Deputy PM Heseltine ( https://www.ft.com/content/d95a0712-6ad ... fd8fce7dea ) predicted, things are fucked with a capital F. For Fucked.
Business, travel, retirement on the Costa del Bollocks- all shot.
The next parliament post Boris will see a cap in hand government crawl back to the EU begging for some scraps to be allowed back in to the Common Market in some form, like a cheating ex begging for one last chance.
Brussels will no doubt forgive in some form, but be a bastard in forgetting and allowing full conjugal rights.
I'd also put a bet on a united Ireland (or independent Ulster as an Irish proxy) before the end of the decade.
And it was all so predictable, Covid, Russia, whatever- doomed to fail from the outset.

What happened to economics? Just because you want something to be true it doesn't mean that it is. After Brexit and the last general election, when facts weren't true but lies were, I'm surprised you believe the stats.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 6:32 pmThere are more job vacancies in the U.K. than ever before, and employers in all sectors are struggling to find people.

Let's just leave the returnees from covid out of it because that's just purposely confusing the issue.
Basic economics dictates that if demand goes down eg because of higher prices- then unemployment will rise as less needs to be produced as no-ones buying as much. Warehouses being full don't help either. Nor do warehouses being empty because of supply chain issues which just raises prices even further and compounds the issue.
I'm sure I could hand pick a couple of sectors that are finding it difficult, as always, but the exceptions don't prove the rule.
They get away with murder. Why? Because enough people like the way they think and they can manipulate everyone else to suit their agenda.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 12:58 amA bit of a side issue, but if you wanted to get a sense of media manipulation and how much contempt they show for people, this is a genuine graphic from today’s Times.
What the actual fuck?
Back on the topic of employment opportunities or lack of. Not only is the BBC re your link, spouting rubbish as far as people from 18 - 64 being in demand (btw what happens to the 65-66 yolds? Are they just swept under the carpet legally?) Which is patently not true re my my friend's experiences for 60+ group, but someone I know son's gf, who is 18, has just been made redundant.

As for your other point, I’m not persuaded that a random example of your friend’s sons gf being made redundant is proof that official stats re there being record levels of vacancies or the evidence of my own eyes that some industries like airlines are in chaos because they can’t hire people is invalid.
Are you in the U.K.?
Australia has a skills shortage and a crippling staffing crisis in general, across all sectors.
Can we link that to Brexit?
Can we link that to Brexit?
pew, pew, pew, pew!
You keep saying you're using your own eyes to validate the job figures. You mean, you're actively searching the job market? Or just reading it in the papers?Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:33 amPeople over 60 are rarely in demand. Incidentally, a friend who is the hotel manager of a large chain has said he and others in similar job positions, believe certain employers are placing adverts for employees just to back up the government figures. Interviews are done online or by phone nowadays, so it's not so far fetched to believe that certain large employers would advertise without intending to ever fill the non existent positions.
Re the over 60's - I agree that it's usual for employees to not employ them, even if there is a law that states they should.
In practice, it's very hard to enforce.
But it is typical that they would employ an immigrant, again re your article, to do the job instead of a British citizen.
Do you not think that UK citizens should be offered the job first before an immigrant if they are as fit and able as them?
I understand that with a falling working demographic that employers need to look for immigrant workers, but let's not forget the lying about it re Brexit.
Jobs for British people they said. Let's kick the immigrants out! It was obviously a load of bollocks to many at the time, but they still managed to get many in the UK to go for it even if they knew the government were lying. It suited their way of thinking, whatever the reality. And because of this, I and half the country don't trust the other half any more.
I would be quite willing to see a civil war, as it's the only real way this will be sorted out.
I forgot to mention that that is diametrically opposed to the BBC article you virtues you were expounding.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:33 am

"The data showed that there was a rise in the number of people moving from economic inactivity - classed as those aged 16-64 who haven't been working or seeking a job - into employment"
British children are going hungry. How many more lives have to be destroyed before the British public has had enough with this man Boris Johnson?

I think the British public has had enough long ago. But sadly that doesn’t mean much.
It doesn’t seem to matter what the public think, at least in the short term.
