There is a wood called ironwood which is a plausible answer but I know it’s not right!

I think I’ll crown you the winner. The Australian wood you are thinking of is commonly stated to be the hardest wood.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 4:53 pmI’m nearly there - it’s in there somewhere. However, there is debate as to which is really the hardest. (By the way Lignum vitae is considered the densest.)
Your rude sounding one most often tops the scale and has a Janka hardness of 5060 lbf (pounds force) (Australia uses Newton). It actually is a member of the ironwood family and is native to Australia. However the Wood Database says the Janka hardness of this Australian native wood is significantly lower than reported.

Another wood less often touted as the hardest is from Argentina/Paraguay. Its name is Quebracho (the axe breaker).
Further clouding things is the guy behind The Wood Database, who is a stickler for accuracy, and takes into account variation among species, and points out that a single source of wood does not equal the average for the species. He actually places another Australian wood at the top of the hardness scale: Waddywood.
Here’s the Wood Database guy explaining his approach

Redwood’s rating on the Janka hardness scale is 3190.
Balsa’s is 100

It sounds like Violet got curious after reading the penis size by country thread and decided to google "which country has the hardest wood?".

Actually it was Burns Night the other night and this came about from listening to a bagpipe maker based in Brisbane. He makes them by drying the drones naturally and not in a kiln. He exports worldwide.
I found it really interesting. He uses Tanzanian African Blackwood, which also ranks among the highest on the hardness scale.

Very kind of you to crown me the winner - though can’t imagine I’d win the big prizes on TV with an answer like ‘something like bukkake’violet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 6:18 pmI think I’ll crown you the winner. The hardest wood in the world is believed to be lignum vitae, a dense tropical wood that is extremely durable and resistant to rot and decay. Its name means "wood of life" in Latin. It is also one of the heaviest woods in the world, with a specific gravity of around 1.2. Other hardwoods that are often considered to be very durable include Brazilian teak (Cumaru), Australian Buloke, and African Ironwood (Ovankol

I like this question as it raises the question of which one is more difficult; a nine darter, a hole-in-one in golf or a 147 in snooker.
There is one sports man who has achieved all three; a nine-dart finish, a maximum break in snooker and a golf hole-in-one.
All have been verified officially except the 9 darter - verified only by his mates in the pub.
Who is the sportsman?
Ps 147 is obvs most difficult.
