Self-employed work permit
raendi,
At a guess I'd say he needs a work permit to stay in the country on a long term basis.
My understanding of Visa's may be wrong, but I'll give it a go.
Tourist Visa
= Single entry 30 day visa plus one extension of 30 days - work not permitted
6 Month Looking for work Visa
= Multiple entry permitted, no proof of employment required, but must leave after 6 months if work not found.
Yearly Visa
= I have a job / own a business in Cambodia, good for 12 months, can come and go as one wishes.
Retirement visa,
= you can stay as long as you like and come and go as you please, but cannot work in or from Cambodia.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Never been asked for a work permit when renewing an EB.
Different ministry.
Different ministry.

Yeah still not getting it sorry. Are you suggesting that the government don’t regard freelancing or remote work as actual work? Or that are you suggesting I just don’t declare anything?raendi wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 10:08 amSorry, not hinting here anything.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 5:31 pmIf you’re trying to hint at something then I’m afraid it’s gone over my head, sorry.raendi wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 4:02 pmWhat you do with work permit if you're not working here?nerdlinger wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 10:39 amAre there any caveats, pitfalls or traps with a digital nomad registering for a work permit on the FWCMS website as Self-Employed?
Just my question: whatta fuck you need work permit in country where you're not do any work?
If you don’t work for a Cambodian company, or actually work dealing with Cambodians, how would they even know?nerdlinger wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 2:29 pmYeah still not getting it sorry. Thanks for your input and all, and I’m sure this is fine for many of you. But personally I’d sleep more comfortably not making “try not to get caught” my strategy - especially as it introduces extra jeopardy in the form of possible tax evasion charges on top of the WP violation. I know many of you have been getting away with it for years and are probably laughing to yourselves at my skittishness, but I don’t fancy being the first one to get caught.
I’d rather just get the documents I need and pay the correct amount of tax and get on with my life. I realise many on K440 will find this amusing.

Honestly I don’t hugely like the term either, I just thought it was the most concise and widely understood expression to convey my work situation.
Or is this one of those weirdass hierarchy status things where the aging sexpats look down on the teachers who look down on the businessmen who look down on the NGO workers who look down on the freelancers?
I could not imagine that any digital nomad here would seriously be worth hunting for other than a battered old laptop perhaps. Most online work here is repetitive sorting that is only possible if you live on a localized budget. Pampering them with anything would be tantamount to removing the small economy they bring to the place.

Yeah again I’m sure you’re right, it’s highly unlikely I’ll get into trouble. Nevertheless I’m still willing to pay for peace of mind.busybee wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 3:39 pmI could not imagine that any digital nomad here would seriously be worth hunting for other than a battered old laptop perhaps. Yeah, how about that for the KT, 'digital nomad arrested for tax evasion and working without a license'. Line them all up and lock them up.

You asked above what he meant and I translated.
There’s plenty who’ve been caught working without WP or the correct visas. They’ve been booted out but they openly worked and advertised their business.
If you want to be legal you’ll have to pay tax on earnings that means setting up a company and doing monthly returns. If you get paid by an overseas company you’ll probably be taxed so unless they have a tax agreement you’ll be double taxed, plus the cost and hassle of owning a company here.
You’ll also need to be registered with the tax ministry, which also costs money, as you’ll need a tax patent to get a visa and WP.
If you’re squirrelled away in your own house working online I doubt anyone cares or knows.
I’m not sure if banks care either if you’ve got regular “income” coming in.

How about when re-entering the country on an EB? Anyone ever been asked to produce a WP by airport immigration when they showed their EB?

No, of course not.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 6:59 pmHow about when re-entering the country on an EB? Anyone ever been asked to produce a WP by airport immigration when they showed their EB?
That’s not their job - never mind the not insignificant number of folks on EB who don’t need a WP.

I like where you positioned the aging sexpats, but the teachers?nerdlinger wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 3:31 pm

Come on, even motodops look down on teachers.
