Sunday Roasts 2023
Question: why do Sunday roasts here start so late? I think The Pub used to start at 1:30pm or maybe even 2. I'm used to noon.
My question is the opposite. Why do they start so early. Here in Kampot Rusty's starts at 11 am FFS. Often by 2 pm they are sold out. Eat in Kampot doesn't even serve it in the evening and last time (a couple days ago) Yacht Club was sold out by 6. This is bullshit for those of us who don't want to stuff ourselves in the middle of the day and would prefer an evening meal when it is cooler and you can make a relaxing night out of it.
I think Sunday lunch usually means 12 and after? 2 is pushing it a bit
Was in town yesterday and hankered for a roast.
Box Office is usually too busy with my pair of brats, so opted for Harry's. Arrived a little early (they don't start serving until 1pm), but was ok to wait and have a few beers while the kids got some other stuff off te menu. Mrs enjoyed her large Thai green curry,
Bar was pretty quiet, except for some scary looking dude who GM would love. Came in, removed his pink t-shirt and sat shirtless to show off his gym physique and back covered in tatts of people.
Mixed roast- beef/pork/quarter chicken was pretty good. Heavy on meat, less on the sides. Spuds were so-so. and Yorkshire pud a bit undercooked. Nive gravy.
$14 for that plate, didn't ask, but assume the regular meat choice would be $10-12.
A struggle to finish as I'm quite out of lsrge eating practice but managed it. Only saw one other customer come in for a roast as we hung out waiting for our taxi and left after 3pm.
Not bad at all, and would have again.

Just because you’re in Cambodia doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the great British tradition of a Sunday dinner. Here are a handful of places to tuck into a hearty Sunday roast in Phnom Penh.
Sunday Roast in Phnom Penh
Aussie XL Cafe & Bar
Aussie XL Cafe & Bar serves up a weekend roast in the form of roast pork and crackling or roast chicken. The huge portions can be offset with a post-meal dip in the pool. Don’t forget that at weekends if you bring the kids for a swim, they get to eat free from the children’s menu.
The Big Easy
Another spot to enjoy a Sunday roast in Phnom Penh is at The Big Easy. Choose from pork belly or chicken, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and veg. It’s also home to a pool table and a lengthy happy hour.
The Box Office
From noon, the Box Office serves its belter Sunday roast. There are multiple options on the menu, including chicken, New Zealand lamb, Australian beef, pork and veggie roasts, all served with Yorkshire puddings, roast and mashed potato and seasonal veg. Bloody Marys are also on the menu, alongside a wide range of craft beers.
Mad Monkey
Tuck into a tasty roast at Mad Monkey’s beer garden between noon and 5pm every Sunday. Options take in the traditional, such as roast chicken and beef. Mad Monkey recommends pre-ordering by 6pm the previous day to guarantee a meal, as they can run out quickly.
Penh 278
Every Sunday from noon, Penh 278 serves a beast of a Sunday lunch accompanied by a free beer or bloody Mary in its leafy outdoor space. Chicken, pork belly and vegetarian nut roast options are available – until they’re sold out, so booking is recommended.

That reads like someone has just scrolled through Facebook posts on a Sunday TBH.
Yesterday my kid wanted a burger, so tried to find Burgershack and couldn't. Instead we went to the nearby Score Bar on street 282.
Ordered the chicken roast. First impressions- not much. Rather than roast chicken, it was a supermarket breast fillet with some sauce on top. Spuds in skins were more boiled than roasted.
The chicken was tough on the outside, but when cut open
It appeared a little on the rare side, and on further inspection.
Not wishing to get salmonella, I left it on the plate, quietly pointing it out to the friendly staff, who took it away.
The bill came, still the full price $8,50 or thereabouts. I gave a look and prepared to pay but said, a little louder than before "Are you charging me for that chicken?"
A woman I assume to be the bosses wife then turned up and had a huddled discussion, while I waited patiently. Finally the bill came back- $3 knocked off for the dodgy roast. I paid for that and the other food and even left a small tip, but certainly will not return.

Wow, they still charged you for that? Times must be tough.
"Goodness me! Now STD free..."
Which looks to be worth about half that.

I’m no vegan. But I’d eat it, and I’d be happy to pay more than $6 for it.johnny light wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 2:01 amWhich looks to be worth about half that.
Where do you go to get better value food than that?
