Mostly Kampot but also Battambang, KK and PP. Not heard many go to Kep.
Oh and one know it all who is going to Ream with his bestest mate in the world ever, who’s even building him a house! Wow. Must be amazing to have BFF mates like that.

Not all tho, the remaining older French drunk crowd on the hill, many of whom were kicked out many times already are way more realistic regarding Sihanoukville future even if one could argue their fatalistic nature put them at an advantage.YaTingPom wrote:You’ll find there’s a correlation between people who’ve been kicked out of accommodation/screwed over on their lease/lost their fav’ drinking hole/have a limited income and the people who hope the bubble (which hasn’t even started) pops and all the Chinese leaving in the incorrect belief it’ll all go back to pre 2015 times. The good old days etc.
As for old Mariner he just thrives in conspiracy theories.
The French have a longer history with this place than anyone (apart from the Chinese) so they will always be around - Shrugging their shoulders, smoking those poncy cigarettes, eating pastry, drinking Pastis, kissing cheeks and generally being annoying.Barang_doa_slae wrote:Not all tho, the remaining older French drunk crowd on the hill, many of whom were kicked out many times already are way more realistic regarding Sihanoukville future even if one could argue their fatalistic nature put them at an advantage.YaTingPom wrote:You’ll find there’s a correlation between people who’ve been kicked out of accommodation/screwed over on their lease/lost their fav’ drinking hole/have a limited income and the people who hope the bubble (which hasn’t even started) pops and all the Chinese leaving in the incorrect belief it’ll all go back to pre 2015 times. If that French coffee place (next to the gas station) is anything to go by they’ll be here long after the Chinese are gone.

It is true that plenty if not most are already gone and it looks like the remaining lot will soon follow. However a few are also digging in and will keep the lights on for now. That self conscious rear guard seems to be made of middle aged expats, rather upper class, most but not all with family ties, even more so regarding non liquid assets.johnny lightning wrote:End of April I call it quits after 8 years. Time ahead will surely be rocky but interesting. Most think that in a few years time PP franchises and modern venues will alleviate the current food and drink venues dying scene problem. It will probably lose a lot in character, become way more expensive but the quality level on offer could also leap forward if PP brands like Eric Kaiser come along. Same goes with entertainment options when malls with movie theaters and such start to open.
I could myself take on some Chinese offer and bail off for way more than I could forsee when I invested but alike LL and YTP I think the Sihanoukville hot potato game is far from over, giving me good odds that if I change my mind in a few years from now it would probably be even more profitable.
Has Expresso Kampuchea near the old bus station survived the development craze? I can't imagine it has.

No. They shut a couple of weeks ago.McPhisto wrote:

Good news is they’ve opened up again!
From the old place get to Ekereach St and turn right and head for Vic Hill. Go past the Viet Embassy and on the right is a turning, st 118, between car repair place and waste land. Go down and turn first right and it’s on the left. You’ll see the green sign.

For people who bought land pre 2015 they are laughing but there’s a chance the gains could drop. That’s not to say they will recover.
There’s a few I know getting squeaky bum holes and selling because of the election rather than the invaders leaving en masse.
It’s not just Chinese investing.

Neither has anyone else. Probably one reason the place went under, literally. I stopped going when they chased off the freelancers.
