They can try and cut the public holidays all they like, but they won't ever stop everyone bunking off for two weeks every Chinese New Year, Khmer New Year and Pchum.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Oh, I don't know. If only there were another country in Southeast Asia with a notoriously hard working population, that had easy sea/port access, cheaper electricity, and hill lands that stayed cool and did not necessitate the use of air conditioning. It would be a bonus if this country had half the holidays of Cambodia as well.
Oh yea.... Vietnam. In 2019, the minimum wages range from VND 2.92 million (US$125) to VND 4.18 million (US$180).
The ranges are per region:
Region I ($180) covers urban Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City;
Region II ($159) covers rural Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City along with urban Can Tho, Da Nang, and Hai Phong;
Region III ($140) includes provincial cities and the districts of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, and Vinh Phuc provinces; and
Region IV ($125) covers the remaining localities.

Human Rights Day and Paris Peace Accords Day have been wiped off 2020 holiday list, according to this.
Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.

I would cut Children's Day to start, and international human rights day.
For the remaining two, I would reduce water festival from three days to two (hell, they cancel the whole thing lots of times anyways), and perhaps make Royal Plowing Ceremony just an observation or something, but not an official holiday.

CNE's info was a good start, but a little off. (Royal Plowing has always only been a 1 day and looks to remain). From the Post:
I'll miss the three day King's birthday...
https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... 2-62170681The number of Cambodian public holidays will be reduced from 28 to 22 days from next year. International Human Rights Day, International Children’s Day and the Paris Peace Agreements Day will be among those cancelled.
In a major shake-up of the Kingdom’s public holidays, the Khmer New Year break has been increased to four days, while the King’s three-day birthday celebrations will be reduced to one.
A sub-decree on public holidays for civil servants and employees signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen and seen by The Post on Tuesday also states that the Meak Bochea Buddhist festival and the National Day of Remembrance commemorating the horrors of the Khmer Rouge will also be cancelled.

I'm guessing it's just a staged process to increase the PMs birthday to a five day event.
I feel sorry for the kids, having their day cancelled.

And now they've increased minimum wage here:Miguelito wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 2:06 pmOh, I don't know. "Next year’s basic minimum wage has been increased by 4.4 per cent to $190 a month from $170 per month last year after the final round of negotiations ended in a vote last week, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training announced.
A ministry press release said allowances, including $7 for transportation, $10 for accommodation, 2,000 riel ($0.50) for meals and a seniority bonus of $2 to $11 would remain unchanged – bringing the average salary for workers to $207 to $218 per month."

I'm proposing a 3-day holiday in memory of socialism, just to piss off the conservatives who love their country so much they moved to Cambodia.
We could label it Vladimir's Day, in recognition of the wondrous services socialism has brought the world...like the US Social Security system, for example.
Toodles, bros.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
If there were more public holidays Phnom Penh would be peaceful nice more quiet for you moaning aliens in their Kingdom.
